MPC Computers LLC—formerly MicronPC—on Monday unveiled new designs for its ClientPro business desktop PCs and Millennia consumer systems designed to make configuration and maintenance easier.

The systems also come in two-tone gray, with matching monitors and peripherals, according to officials with the Nampa, Idaho, company.

Key among the improvements is tool-free access to the internal components, said Rob Wheadon, director of desktop marketing and development at MPC. “Anywhere that we could eliminate screws, weve done that using different levers,” Wheadon said.

For the ClientPC desktops, this also means being able to convert to a mini-tower or desktop configuration without additional hardware

“We wanted to simply things from a management standpoint,” Wheadon said.

On the chassis, there also are more I/O ports for such connections as audio, headphone, USB and IEEE 1394 serial bus.

“You bring the things people want easy access to that theyre crawling around [the back of the computer] for now and put them on the front of the chassis,” Wheadon said.

The new designs are available now, he said.

MPC, a Gores Technology Group company, is changing its name to clear up any confusion with its former parent company, Micron Technology Inc.
