Toshiba Outfits New Satellite, Qosmio Laptops with Intel Core Chips

Toshiba apparently likes the limelight of CES.

A day after announcing an expanded lineup of Satellite ultrathin laptops powered by Advanced Micro Devices’ Neo chip platform, Toshiba on Jan. 7 unveiled a host of new notebooks running Intel’s latest Core processors.

The systems vendor is putting the new processors into products in its Satellite, Tecra and Qosmio laptops, giving users a wide range of computers to choose from, according to Ron Smith, vice president of marketing for Toshiba America Information Systems.

“This new family of smart processors will optimize laptop performance by automatically adapting to whatever task you are performing on your PC,” Smith said in a statement. “With the addition of Intel’s new processors throughout our line, Toshiba can continue to provide customers with their choice of the right laptop across and ever widening range of performance levels.”

Intel’s new 32-nanometer dual-core processors include products in the Core i3, i5, and i7 series, and offer integrated graphics and memory controllers, along with energy efficiency, power management and Hyper-Threading features.

The Satellite A505, L505 and L555, M505 and P505 systems offer multimedia, high mobility and high performance capabilities. The A505 come with a variety of Intel Core options as well as graphics options featuring Nvidia’s GeForce GPU.

The U505 is the smallest of the Satellite systems, coming in at less than five pounds and with a 13-inch screen.

They range in price from $459.99 to $799.99.

The Tecra A11 series is aimed at medium to large businesses with an integrated keypad and option Nvidia GeForce graphics, and can be powered by Intel’s Core i3-330M, i5-430M or i7-720QM chips.

It starts at $879.99

The Qosmio X505is powered by the quad-core i7-720QM or dual-core i5-430M, and also offers the GeForce GTS 360M graphics. The high-end multimedia system starts at $1,199.99.

All systems except the Tecra A11 will be available Jan. 12. The Tecra system will be available Jan. 19.
