I’m currently in sunny San Diego for the DEMOfall 08 show. The morning session of presentations just concluded and there were a few that looked pretty interesting.

By far the most interesting presentation so far at DEMOfall 08 was by Plastic Logic, whose product is so new it doesn’t even have a name. The product Plastic Logic demoed was a radically new kind of e-book reader that is based on plastic electronics, from the display to the chips. This resulted in a very thin, very durable and very readable e-book display. Look for more detailed analysis on this product.

Another demo that got a lot of attention was by Real Networks, which demoed RealDVD. Sure to draw the ire of major movie companies, RealDVD makes it simple for people to copy their DVDs to their PCs and watch them whenever they want.

Drawing the most applause from the crowd (full of people who probably do their fair share of presentations), was MobiShow from Awind. This was a small wireless projector that made it possible to drive fully functional and decent resolution from a mobile phone.

There were some other interesting demos in the morning session, though most were firmly in the consumer photo, video and music management space.

Check back later for updates from the afternoon session and for more detailed takes on the products at DEMOfall 08.
