After spotting Donut in the wild, Google’s Android team released the Android 1.6 Donut version, with its own, crude logo:

I covered the features on eWEEK here this morning, but in brief they include CDMA capability, the ability to conform to QVGA and WVGA screen resolutions, a Quick Search Box and, most importantly, text-to-speech capabilities.

A Quick Search Box is about what you’d expect from a Google-sponsored mobile operating system build:

But the text-to-speech feature, or any voice-enabled tool for that matter, is where Google can really make its mark in mobile. No, I don’t have a screenshot of that. :)

Sure, voice recognition is currently weak (check out the transcriptions in Google Voice), but if there is any vendor that is going to meet the challenge of making voice more accurate, relevant and actionable on smartphones or any computing machine, Google is the one.
