There are new signs of Google Inc.’s rumored “Big Daddy” infrastructure overhaul.

Judging from the recent plethora of evidence cited by Google watchers, it seems that Big Daddy has spread to much more of Google’s network.

Big Daddy, the project’s supposed nickname, refers to new data centers that Google developing and now testing. Google and other search engines rely on a global network of data centers to perform core tasks like cataloging Web sites or serving up localized features.

Search engines infrequently upgrade the computing and networking hardware. Instead, the firms focus on developing new features to lure more site visitors, which translates to more advertising revenues.

Is all the hubbub true, or as another Big Daddy once said, do “I smell the odor of mendacity.”

Google isn’t talking.
