New evidence emerges of Google building a virtual hard drive where consumers and enterprises can store an unlimited amount of Google mail, instant messages, searches, downloads and other kinds of data.

The hints were part of a Google Analyst Day presentation that appeared briefly online, but disappeared soon after the new wrinkles started resonating in the blogosphere.

Apparently, Google is at work on three projects, named GDrive, GDS, and Lighthouse. Each’s theme is based on bringing about “infinite storage” and “infinite bandwidth”, according to versions of the pulled presentation slides posted online. Google’s Firefox browser team is also at work on the network end of things.

Tactically speaking, the initiative “suits our strength vis-à-vis Microsoft and is also of great value to the user,” Google wrote in the slides.

(UPDATE Google confirmed it removed some slides, but did not specify which ones, and would not comment further.)
