Google is hurdling toward its fall release for its Google TV service, which aims to blend Web and television consumption in a tidy package that includes a Logitech Revue set-top box with remote control or an Android-enabled TV from Sony.

Both the Revue and Sony TVs will be sold by Best Buy. However, reports on Google TV’s launch date are coming fast and furious out of Engadget.

First, the blog said Sept. 13 that the service was launching Oct. 17, courtesy of an internal Best Buy document that claimed the Oct. 3 launch date had been pushed back two weeks.

Three days later another tipster told Engadget that Logitech’s Revue will be available Sept. 29.

Better yet, for existing Dish Network subscribers, the $299 Revue will cost only $179.

So, is Google TV coming from Logitech first, with subsequent sales from Best Buy in October? It’s seems pretty fuzzy, but we do know we can expect it within the next 4 to 6 weeks.

My personal feeling: The service should get out the door ASAP. People are already planning their holiday spending.

Thanks to Google’s largesse at its Zeitgeist show Sept. 14, we know the service is almost ready for launch.

Google reportedly gave away a Dish TV DVR that is Google TV-ready and three months of service and a Google TV-enabled Sony Blu-ray player, with installation from Best Buy’s Geek Squad, according to Search Engine Land.

No one got Sony Bravia TVs enabled with Google TV, apparently.

It’s important to note that while the 600 or so Zeitgeist attendees got the gear, as it were, it won’t be ready to run Google TV until the service launches.

I’ve been inquiring about a test model and Google told me to go through Logitech or Sony. Grrr.
