The Internet search engine Accoona’s last big bash was in December 2004, when its site went live.

Now it’s time to party again. And for some bold predictions that it’ll be search’s next big thing.

At a press event March 8 at the United Nations building in New York City, Chief Executive Officer Eckhard Pfeiffer said that from “this day forward, Internet search will never be the same.”

That of course remains to be seen. So far, Accoona’s averaging a relatively miniscule one million inquiries a day.

So what’s the big deal?

Accoona’s stitched together a search engine using artificial intelligence.

The combo gives Accoona the smarts to understand that words have different meanings, something other search engines don’t. Oscars, for instance, means both the Academy Awards film industry fete, and a bunch of guys named Oscar. And that makes for better searching, Accoona says.
