CrossTec has released a new version of its Activeworx Enterprise software with enhanced log management features.

In Activeworx Enterprise 4.1, the Boca Raton, Fla.-based company has added a new module, dubbed the Audit Logger Extension, or ALX, which CrossTec officials said allows a simpler construction of a log management install in a distributed environment. The new release also includes new data querying features for information stored by the Audit Logger.

Jeff Richards, vice president of security sales at CrossTec, cited the needs of one customer—a movie theater chain—that had to retain information for PCI compliance at every individual theater and save to a central repository in off-hours.

“This ALX piece allows for Activeworx to accomplish a distributed logging collection of this sort without having to place the full-blown Audit Logger piece at every location,” he said. “This is miles ahead of what an appliance-based solution could do.”

The release comes less than four months after the release of version 4.0, and like its predecessor combines full log management capabilities that can capture network events quickly with Activeworx Security Centers security information and event management tools.

Yankee Group analyst Sandra Palumbo said such products fill a need as businesses deal with compliance and other issues.

“Todays organizations are looking for cost-effective solutions [that] can do more, enable higher levels of security and log management capabilities, and enhance organizational understanding of what is happening in the network enterprise,” she said in a statement.
