EarthLink announced Dec. 4 it has penned an agreement with a developer of remote PC services, PlumChoice, to make EarthLinks Cyber Check available 24/7.

To go along with round-the-clock support, Cyber Check is a remote PC virus and spyware removal service that promises to provide customers with new benefits and the ability to choose a favorite technician for service while also offering a three-step process to remedy a problem.

“Cyber Check was launched to help consumers solve their spyware and virus problems over the phone in the comfort of their home,” Craig Forman, executive vice president of Atlanta-based EarthLink, said in a company release.

When confronted with a virus or spyware problem, a Cyber Check team member will evaluate the problem and devise a strategy to combat the issue. Cyber Check will then connect to the users PC and will have the PC download the spyware and virus removal tools needed to remove any harmful programs or codes that Cyber Check may find.

Throughout the process, the user will be able to have control of his or her PC, and once the scan is complete and any harmful computer agents are removed, Cyber Check will uninstall its tools, leaving the users PC clean.

“We look forward to working with EarthLink to raise consumers expectations of quality PC services to a whole new level,” Ted Werth, CEO of PlumChoice, in Bedford, Mass., said in the same release.

To use this removal service, Cyber Check customers must allow EarthLink to have remote access to their PCs, enlist Cyber Checks service for their home computers only, have broadband Internet service and have Windows 2000 or XP.

EarthLinks Cyber Check is available 24/7, regardless of a users ISP, for a one-time fee of $99.
