Startup PoliVec Inc. on Monday unveiled Enforcer, the third piece of its security policy automation software suite.
The product, which has been in a limited beta for several months, gives security administrators the ability to constantly monitor their companys security policies and compare them against a predefined policy to look for any deviations.
Enforcer places an agent on every device or service the administrator wants to manage. The agents periodically report back to the Agent Manager any changes that have taken place on the monitored systems.
The results are displayed in a console, and depending on the system affected and the gravity of the change, Enforcer can send an alert to the administrator via e-mail, pager or cell phone.
Enforcer, which joins Builder and Scanner in PoliVecs product portfolio, is designed to take the burden of auditing and monitoring thousands of far-flung systems off the IT department.
“IT staffs have more work to do with fewer people, so how do you do all this stuff?” said Roberto Medrano, CEO of PoliVec, based in Colorado Springs, Colo. “If you want to audit all of your machines [manually] it takes a lot of money.”
Enterprises can also use Enforcer to check the policies and compliance of their partners and customers to ensure that they comply with the companys standards.
“Struggling to manually write and monitor policies takes hundreds of hours. Its such a slow and tedious process,” said Butch Hill, vice president of IT at Air Academy Federal Credit Union, also in Colorado Springs, who has been testing Enforcer and uses Builder as well.
