MCI Inc. Monday launched the NetSec Security Risk Management Service, a repackaging and automation of a number of security offerings the company has delivered in the past.

The NetSec service allows enterprises to quantify, prioritize and minimize risks, helping them take steps to prevent security incidents and take action against threats. The service scans the enterprise network to obtain data on assets and map vulnerabilities against specific assets, allowing network managers to identify which of their systems are at the most risk at any given time.

With MCIs new service, users can monitor their networks through a Web interface, which provides threat descriptions, system and device configurations, remediation plans, and reports. Users are given a dashboard that displays current threats, remediation status, risk and impacts throughout the network.

The service is based on MCIs Finium technology, which correlates threats to systems, integrating at both the data and operations levels, said Chris Sharp, vice president for MCIs NetSec Security Services.

The new package ties together several offerings that MCI has provided in the past and automates the collection and delivery of information, he said, adding that users receive the metrics needed to measure and track their security risks, which is useful in requesting greater resources for security, he said.

“Its helping people go back and generate more budget for security,” Sharp said.
