Okta, an independent provider of identity and device management for enterprises, revealed March 6 that it has acquired Stormpath, a provider of identity management for applications and APIs.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The Stormpath team, including co-founders Alex Salazar and Les Hazlewood, will join Okta to further accelerate the growth of its identity platform for developers. Additionally, Okta has acquired a license to the Stormpath technology, the San Francisco-based company said.
The need for a unified identity across every app, service and device is expanding daily as every company transforms its business using digital services. Companies are seeking to build, secure and scale their critical infrastructure faster while reducing costs and maintenance so that they can get to market and innovate more quickly.

There’s no question that speed to market is one of the key criteria for new-gen business in 2017.

San Mateo, Calif.-based Stormpath, founded in 2011, developed one of the industry’s first identity management APIs for software teams building web, mobile and API-driven applications. From its work with developer organizations across a number of different industries, the Stormpath team brings an understanding of how to support developers building secure customer-facing web and mobile applications and APIs, McKinnon said.
