A small security startup on Monday will announce a software solution that puts a new spin on the concept of application security. Permeo Technologies Application Security suite 4.2 includes a clientless option that enables users to launch programs from a typical application portal.
Permeos solution uses a unique architecture that creates a virtual network above the normal TCP/IP network. When a user launches an application, the users machine passes the request to the Permeo suite, which then hands it off to the application server. The communications are handled via the applications native protocol, and the virtual circuit the system uses is established by a session-layer proxy with authentication and authorization plug-ins.
The idea is to prevent any direct IP connection between the two hosts. The system can be used for both internal and external communications over public and private networks. An option allows for SSL encryption of all of the communications.
Version 4.2s clientless option gives users the ability to perform all of these functions from any standard browser-based application portal. Virtually any application can be extended in this way, including Web-based, client-server and custom software. All of the Web-based sessions are encrypted via SSL and logged.
And theres no need to modify any of the existing software in order for it to work with the Permeo system, officials said.
