Tangoe, which develops communications lifecycle management software, has unveiled the latest release of its Mobile Device Management solution, MDM v12.2. This update, which the company announced Oct. 2, sports a redesigned user interface for improved navigation and enhanced user and device list management and profile management that provides IT managers with information about blocked devices, inventory, applications and alerts.
Other features include an end-user self-service portal with support tools and self-administration, as well as application management that allows mobile device blocking filters based on the presence or absence of an application, according to the company.
The MDM v 12.2 upgrade also offers the ability for authorized users to securely access, browse, preview, edit, and search files on corporate file servers and SharePoint servers by enabling approved smart devices to have the capability for secure syncing and sharing of documents along with end-to-end mobile data governance. In order to keep corporate data separate from personal data, the platform also offers device containerization for Apple iOS and Google Android devices. The platform secures corporate data, protects against malware and prevents unauthorized access via security policies that can be tailored by employee group and distributed to devices over the air.
Mobile security is a growing concern among IT departments as the consumerization of IT and bring your own device (BYOD) initiatives flood organizations with personal mobile devices, an issue MDM v12.2 addresses with security and policy compliance features, such as secure virtual private network (VPN) and WiFi communication, IT policy and password enforcement, device blocking, remote lock, wipe, reset and locate functionality. To help ease facilitation, all these features are located from a single command-and-control center.
Support has also been extended to better meet enterprise security standards, such as security assertion markup language (SAML) for user authentication and the ability to access multiple enterprise resources via single sign-on. Rounding out the security features is the ability to limit access to Microsoft Exchange for iOS, Android and Microsoft Windows Mobile devices until the device is in compliance with corporate requirements.
Another issue facing organizations is rising mobile data costs, which Tangoe’s platform addresses with the Real-Time Expense Management (rTEM) feature, which helps IT departments monitor, report and analyze data, voice, SMS and roaming rates across an organization’s mobile fleet. The expense management feature also offers a GEO-fence boundary crossing alert for asset management and IT administrator alerts as roaming devices approach usage limit thresholds.
