An apparent terrorist attack on the World Trade center has crippled communications in New York City this morning.
Two airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center towers 18 minutes apart. The second airplane crashed while news crews were filming disastrous consequences of the first attack. Wire reports suggest over 1,000 people are injured, two dead.
The New York Stock Exchange has postponed trading as a result of what could be the worst terrorist attack since the Oklahoma City bombing, according to the FBI. In a short statement following the attacks, President Bush honored those injured by the attack with a minute of silence.
Telephones and data links in New York City are either not working or are severely overloaded as a result of the attack. Infrastructure directly affected by the attack belongs to Verizon, Metromedia Fiber and XO Communications, all of which operate fiber optic links in the vicinity of the World Trade Center business district.
Breaking news shows the Pentagon is also on fire and appears to have been attacked by a hijacked plane as well
All American airports are now closed.
