Zone Labs integrity clientless solution is an ActiveX component that performs a quick scan of remote Web clients for nefarious Trojan horses, adware or keystroke loggers. Administrators worried about the integrity of remote computers accessing their precious Web applications will find comfort using this application—once it matures a bit.

I installed Integrity Clientless Solution, which shipped last month, on a Windows 2000 server with IIS in just a couple of minutes. The configuration page is simple: I just selected what types of malware to scan for and what action to take if found.

I then infected several remote clients with either the MyDoom.A worm or PurityScan adware. As I accessed the protected Web site for the first time, my browser prompted me to install the ActiveX component. Then the scan ran quickly and permitted access to the site. Turns out Zone Labs still has work to do building up the exploit database.

Further testing revealed that the scans blocked access for systems. A manual update of the signature database was needed to detect MyDoom.A; Zone Labs could stand to simplify this update process.

Pricing for Integrity Clientless Solution starts at a hefty $20 per user, but volume discounts are available. Go to www.zonelabs.com for more information.
