Arbortext Inc. this summer will roll out an updated version of its Epic Editor tool that will include greater support for standards while simplifying the process of creating content and applications.

The Ann Arbor, Mich., company will launch Epic Editor 4.3, which will include new or improved support for XML Schemas and XSL-FO (Extensible Stylesheet Language-Formatting Objects), which officials say will simplify and speed up content development.

The goal is to make life easier for the business user by reducing the complexity of many of these processes, according to P.G. Bartlett, vice president for marketing at Arbortext.

Improved support for XML Schemas includes better validation over Document Type Definitions such as datatyping for content validation and local data models.

Other enhancements with Epic Editor 4.3 will include compatibility with FileNet Corp.s Panagon Content Services, a simplified “Windows-like” toolbar and Publishing Pipeline, a tool derived from the World Wide Web Consortiums XML Pipeline submission that enables developers to more easily and quickly configure and customize publishing processes, Bartlett said.

Other standard support includes XUI, the XML User Interface that the company says will enable developers to create dynamic dialog boxes, and ActiveX, which enables Epic Editor user to incorporate other applications as they work with MathML (for equations), Scalable Vector Graphics and forms created in Visual Basic.

Arbortext users will be available for a free upgrade to Epic Editor 4.3.
