IBM and Inktomi Corp. are joining together to provide enterprise content delivery network (eCDN) technology to companies looking to see the benefits of CDN behind their firewalls.

The two companies are teaming up to meet the demands of an increasing number of businesses that want to enhance their ability to manage and distribute mission-critical business applications, such as enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, content management, enterprise portal and streaming media.

Foster City, Calif.-based Inktomi, a leading CDN solutions vendor, will work with IBMs Digital Media Group, according to the agreement, announced Monday. Enterprise customers will be able to leverage Inktomi technology running on IBMs eServer xSeries systems to help overcome network congestion without adding expensive bandwidth and difficult-to-manage router upgrades, the companies said. In addition, IBM Global Services is now reselling Inktomi software products, including Inktomi Enterprise Search and Inktomi content networking software.

As part of the IBM Digital Media Factory, Inktomi will provide key eCDN and streaming technology—such as its content networking software products, including Inktomi Traffic Edge, Traffic Core, Traffic Controller and Content Delivery Suite—on IBMs eServer xSeries systems.
