TopicalNet Inc. announced the last piece of its acquisition strategy Tuesday, agreeing to buy content management software developer Lightspeed Interactive Inc.

Upon closing of the deal, the company will then change its name to Lightspeed Inc. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Lightspeed is the fifth company TopicalNet has acquired since April of last year in the process of creating a complete product set for automated content acquisition, content management, collaboration and content delivery for the mid-market.

The San Francisco-based company previously acquired Internet Profiles Corp. (I/Pro) from Engage Inc. for online audit and analytics; Collectively Sharper for content integration; Teralytics for customer interaction data analytics; and Wego Systems for collaboration and portal development.

Woburn, Mass.-based Lightspeed Interactives flagship product, iEngine, will add content management as well as smart messaging and transformation for handling of both structured and unstructured information. Lightspeeds Astoria product will add content management capabilities for organizations producing publications and other structured documents.

Lightspeed sold its products mostly through resellers and system integrators, bringing that channel to the new company, which will be based in San Francisco.

“This acquisition is the final piece of a puzzle we have been assembling for more than a year,” Ray Kingman, CEO of the new Lightspeed Inc., said in a statement. “We can now offer mid-market customers a complete solution for their vast amounts of electronic content.

“One of our major objectives has been to create a fully integrated product that can be up and running in a matter of days,” Kingman continued. “The technology we have acquired makes that objective a reality and to reflect that, we have taken on the Lightspeed name.”
