In the storage industry, capacity matters. With that in mind, Procom Technology Inc. later this month will release the latest version of its DataForce software, which will give enterprises using a jukebox disk caching system an alternative way to support 1,000 disk titles and manage 1 terabyte of storage.

Version 3.1 supplies all the benefits of network-attached storage and greater title capacity in a smaller space than comparable jukebox units.

Using the software infrastructure means storing more disks without the complicated and expensive robotics or the dedicated server inherent in most jukeboxes. It also means more people can access more information at one time, according to the Irvine, Calif., company.

Performance also will improve: DataForce operates in the 200x range, as opposed to the 30x range of jukeboxes. Pricing starts at $9,000.
