EMC has upgraded the hardware and information management software in its Atmos cloud infrastructure package.
Atmos, launched in May 2009, offers cloud storage capacity that includes enterprise-level services such as data movement policies and data retention controls.
The on-premises system is designed to help IT managers automate and optimize the distribution of unstructured information across geographically dispersed locations, EMC said Feb. 16.
The company’s new GeoProtect software offers more flexibility, resiliency and higher content protection levels than previous versions, EMC said. The package is designed for a large, globally distributed cloud infrastructure data center.
EMC powered up the Atmos hardware by upgrading the servers and arrays with the new Intel Xeon processor 5500 series. It also added higher-density 2TB disk drives for better performance and scale in petabyte-size cloud environments.
The new drives, when installed to system limits, double Atmos’ top capacity to a whopping 720TB per cabinet for cloud infrastructures, the company said.
Atmos Version 1.3 and its associated hardware updates will ship by the end of March, EMC said. Go here for more information.
