Dell, EMC Team Up

Dell Computer will tackle the high end of the storage market through a deal with EMC, under which the companies will co-brand EMCs Clariion line of storage systems. Financial terms werent disclosed, but the five-year deal is expected to make Dell the top reseller of Clariion products. EMC is seeking to boost sales after it posted a steep quarterly loss, and says it plans to cut 4,000 jobs.

Firewall Chief

SonicWall, a maker of firewall and other Internet security appliances, appointed Cosmo Santullo its president and CEO. Former CEO Sreekanth Ravi will continue to serve as chairman. Santullo was most recently CEO of Mirror Image Internet, a content delivery network provider. Prior to that, he was head of worldwide marketing of EMC.

Intel Axes Gadgets

Intel is shutting down its consumer electronics division, which sold PC peripherals, including digital cameras, digital audio players and electronic toys. The chipmaker will also scrap plans to introduce an Intel-branded wireless Web tablet. However, the company says it will continue to sell home networking products.
