A new storage switch from Crossroads Systems Inc. provides midsize enterprises with large-scale Fibre Channel-to-SCSI flexibility.

The Crossroads 8000, announced last week by the Austin, Texas, company, features eight SCSI device ports, a built-in Web server and improved backup speed, according to officials.

The switch features dual Fibre Channel ports, 528MB-per-second data transfer rates, external throughput up to 180MB per second, connections up to 10 kilometers, redundant fans and power supplies, and a 1U form factor.

The 8000 improves on past versions with more than 48 hours of uptime for backups, doubled sequential I/O performance for faster tape reads and writes, user-defined security settings, and device- and bus-level error detection and management.

Pricing for the 8000 switch, available now, starts at $18,995.
