Cloud services provider LiveOffice announced Nov. 11 that it has begun offering archiving support for a number of Web-based e-mail services, including Microsoft Exchange Online, Google Apps, Cisco’s new WebEx Mail and Intermedia, along with several others.
LiveOffice is using its homegrown SAAS (software-as-a-service) CloudMerge platform to integrate these e-mail services with its archiving. Archiving systems can be deployed for either cloud or on-site e-mail systems and can be done in short order, CEO Nick Mehta told eWEEK.
“As far as we know, we’re the first archive provider to support both cloud-based and on-premises e-mail,” Mehta said.
For those potential users who may be hesitant to allow their business data to be handled by a third party, Mehta said that this is not a problem for LiveOffice.
“The No. 1 issue people have with cloud-based e-mail is compliance and legal issues: ‘How do I deal with those when my data is outside of my firewall?'” Mehta said. “Also: ‘How do I deal with the reliability of the cloud provider?’ ‘What about vendor lock-in: What if I don’t like the cloud e-mail provider I’ve moved to?’
“Our new e-mail archiving now addresses those fears around cloud-based e-mail-no matter where you go for e-mail.”
LiveOffice enables users to search their archive from Outlook or from a handheld device (BlackBerry or iPhone) and create and send e-mails from that archive if they choose. Plus, the archive itself is backed up, Mehta said.
This independent backup and standby capability ensures 24/7 availability of e-mail-even if the primary e-mail system fails during a planned migration, Mehta said. Using the LiveOffice archive and archive backup, staff members can continue to access, send and receive messages and attachments regardless of the status of their primary e-mail system, Mehta said.
“Since e-mail and message management consume valuable operating resources, moving these tasks and responsibilities to a cloud-based service is becoming increasingly attractive,” Enterprise Strategy Group analyst Brian Babineau said.
“LiveOffice enables companies to make this transition at their own pace. Companies that plug into the LiveOffice archive benefit from continuity and backup/recovery features, while also meeting mailbox management, legal discovery and compliance needs.”
LiveOffice runs all its own servers in colocation centers run by Savvis, Mehta said.
LiveOffice is hosting a free Webinar Thursday, Nov. 12 (10 a.m. Pacific/1 p.m. Eastern) to discuss the challenges that come with managing e-mail volume.
