Mezeo Software, a relative newcomer on the cloud computing scene, April 15 introduced a new version of its private-cloud storage platform for the enterprise.
The Houston-based startup made the announcement at Storage Networking World in Orlando, Fla.
Mezeo originally launched its cloud software in December 2008 specifically for the IT service provider market. The product now has been updated with new features and for simpler deployment and control with a new user interface.
The UI features drop-down menus and wizards in an effort to complete head-on with services from Amazon.com, Google, Microsoft and others, said Mezeo President and CEO Steve Lesem.
New features in this enterprise-ready version include LDAP integration and a common sign-on apparatus, Lesem said.
The package also features upgrades to its Windows native client, including “automatic file synchronization to the cloud, ‘one-click’ public URL generation and support for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7,” Lesem said.
Mezeo for Enterprise also includes end-to-end encryption, advanced file sharing and collaboration, content tagging and true ‘anywhere access from four types of endpoints: an integrated Windows desktop with Sync client, rich Web 2.0 browsers, and iPhone and BlackBerry native client access, the company said.
Familiar tools for developers, admins
“We’re from the hosting market, so we know this space,” Lesem said. “We use tools that developers are comfortable using and quite frankly that they work with every day. Everything on our platform is Linux-based. We use PostgreSQL for our file catalog and metadata repository. We can use whatever storage you’re using in-house, whether it’s SAN [storage area network] or NAS [network-attached storage], or a collection of disk drives. We can mix and match that storage behind our server,” Lesem said.
Mezeo uses REST-based Web services APIs to enable programmatic access and advanced services, the company said.
