Stratus Technologies Inc., which already sold EMC Corp.s Clariion CX400 and CX600 storage systems with its ftServer family of servers, will now sell the storage companys latest product, the CX200.

Software developed by Stratus, of Maynard, Mass., allows its fault-tolerant servers to interoperate with EMCs Clariion systems, according to Stratus spokesman Ken Donoghue.

Donoghue said the Clariion lines high-availability features make it a good fit for Stratus Intel-based servers, for which the company boasts 99.999 percent reliability.

“The two of them together, with all of the fault resistance that EMC builds into its systems, and the fault tolerance of our servers, gives customers a high level of reliability,” he said. “The demand from end users was to hook up a high-availability storage subsystem with high-availability servers.”

Although it is not a reseller of EMCs Symmetrix line of storage systems, Stratus ftServer systems—which include the ftServer 3200, 5240 and 6500 servers—also can integrate with those products, Donoghue said.

The Clariion systems, from Hopkinton, Mass.-based EMC, include such features as shared storage and remote data mirroring. Stratus ftServer systems—which run Microsoft Windows 2000—feature duplicate components that process the same instruction at the same time, which enables them to keep processing in the event of a component failure.

Hot-swappable components also enable users to replace parts without having to take the servers down.

An ftServer system can be ordered with a Clariion CX200 immediately, Donoghue said.
