Apple Computer has released a firmware update that the company said will fix problems with its Boot Camp software.

The Cupertino, Calif. company posted the firmware update on the Apple Web site on Nov. 13. The update affects Intel-based Macs, including the iMac, the MacBook, MacBook Pro and the Mac mini.

According to the companys Web site, the “EFI Firmware Update fixes several Boot Camp, start up, and wake-from-sleep issues” for these Intel-based Macs.

Outside of instruction to downloading the update, Apple did not offer a further explanation of and company officials could not be immediately reached for comment.

Boot Camp is software that will allow Mac users to run Microsofts Windows. Apple released the latest version, called Boot Camp 1.1.2, on Oct. 30.

Company officials have said that since Boot Camp was first introduced on April 5, the software has been downloaded more than a million times.

Some analysts have said that Boot Camp has contributed to the growing popularity of Macs with consumers and some businesses.

Although Boot Camp is available for Mac OS X Tiger v10.4.6, the software will be bundled in OS X Version 10.5, called Leopard, which CEO Steve Jobs has said will be released in the spring of 2007.
