Less than 48 hours after a national security organization released a report on cyber-threats and defenses, attackers breached its Website and posted the membership list on an underground forum.

The Intelligence and National Security Alliance, a “premier intelligence and national security organization,” said in a Sept. 12 report that security professionals needed to develop better cyber-intelligence sharing, analysis and defenses to deal with the current “cyber-threat environment.” Unknown attackers attacked the INSA Website and managed to obtain the entire 3,000-person membership list, which was posted on Cryptome.org Sept. 13.

“In apparent retaliation, INSA’s ‘secure’ computer system was hacked,” MSNBC reported. INSA President Ellen McCarthy confirmed the incident.

The posted list included 95 e-mail addresses belonging to the National Security Agency, as well as addresses from the White House, the Pentagon, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Central Intelligence Agency, and the State Department. Top executives from defense contractor Northrop Grumman, Booz Allen Hamilton and Boeing were also included, according to a MSNBC report.

Titled the “INSA Nest of Official and Corporate Spies,” the list contained full names, names of the company or government agency, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address.
