No, it’s not pronounced “bummy.” “Boo-mi” would probably be a phonetically more desirable description of the company that calls itself BUMI (Backup My Info!), a managed online backup and recovery service for mid-range and SMBs that’s gaining momentum in the market.
However, this could get confusing with Dell’s Boomi cloud integration platform; maybe we should just let it all lie right there. Pronounce BUMI any way you want, just leave me out of it.
The New York-based company this week unveiled BUMI Cloud Recovery, a disaster recovery solution that allows companies to restore their servers into BUMI’s secure virtual environment within a short period of time after a systemic failure.
In restoring a company’s data into this virtual environment, BUMI utilizes its agentless software to take bare-metal backup images of all an enterprise’s servers. These hardware-independent backups can be restored as virtual servers in BUMI’s Toronto data center.
Once the restored environment is intact, an organization’s employees are able to access the network via a virtual desktop from anywhere in the world, provided there is an internet connection, CEO Jennifer Walzer said.
“This is a great option for organizations that don’t want to invest in a replication solution in addition to their file backups,” Walzer said. “This is an efficient recovery method for companies that cannot afford to be down for 24 hours.”
If you are a midrange to small business exploring the addition of cloud services and/or systems to your IT environment, The Station says check it out.
