We don’t often report on personnel moves here at The Station, but Hewlett-Packard’s April 29 announcement that it has recruited EMC Storage Division President David Donatelli to be its new EVP for Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking is major news.
Donatelli, who starts May 5, will take over a $19.4 billion division. The business unit includes Business Critical Systems, Industry Standard Servers, StorageWorks, ESS Infrastructure Software and Blades. For good measure, HP CEO Mark Hurd also threw the ProCurve networking software business onto Donatelli’s desk. The new guy will have more than a few meetings to schedule, we think.
But he’s quite capable. Donatelli has logged 22 years in the data storage business. EMC became No. 1 in the world external disk storage market on his watch. He replaces Scott Stallard, who is retiring from HP after 34 years.
The Station congratulates Mr. Donatelli on a job well done at EMC and wishes him luck in his new position. Congrats also to Mr. Stallard on his accomplishments with StorageWorks, one of the mainstays in the business.
