Here’s a timely offer for all those snowed-in folks across the U.S. — and you all know who you are.
Minnesota-based Kroll Ontrack, through its Ontrack Data Recovery services, as of Feb. 3 is offering free data recovery evaluations for laptop and desktop computers and USB drives affected by the massive winter storm.
You’ve no doubt heard of it: the blizzard that recently swept through the Southern, Midwest and Northeastern areas of the United States, in addition to Toronto, Canada.
Kroll is doing this because: a) it’s good business; and b) it believes that 99 percent of all information is now stored electronically and that much of this information is not backed up.
In fact, The Station has seen several studies that indicate nearly half of consumers and businesses do not back up their storage drives.
This also is reinforced by the increase in the number of jobs Kroll Ontrack says it receives following a natural disaster or incidences of severe weather.
The extent of damage to digital files and information stored on hard drives will remain unknown until power is restored. Fortunately, the majority of digital data can be recovered from power-affected drives with the help of data recovery software and or services.
In addition to the free evaluations, Kroll is discounting data recoveries to $895. The offer expires Feb. 28, 2011.
