France-based portable storage-drive maker LaCie on Sept. 10 unveiled some new USB 3.0 hard drives for desktops or pockets.

The LaCie Minimus and LaCie Rikiki USB 3.0 feature fast transfer speeds [5Gb/sec on average] in ultra-small form factors. The recyclable drives are encased in brushed aluminum, which offers resilience from drops and improved heat dissipation.

Both drives offer backward compatibility with USB 2.0, so they will work on any PC or Mac with no worries, LaCie Consumer Product Manager Philippe Rault said.

Rikiki and Minimus drives come with LaCie’s Software Suite for easy setup and backup support for Macs or PCs. In addition, each drive comes with 10GB of free Wuala online storage to securely store and share files in the cloud, Rault said.

Rikiki USB 3.0 is available in 500GB/1TB capacities starting at $100. Minimus is available in 1TB/2TB capacities starting at $130. Both are available through the LaCie Online Store, LaCie Corner, and LaCie Reseller+.
