NTT America wants a piece of the increasingly active cloud storage market.

On July 26, the company launched a new online service called Cloud Files, a cloud-based backup and archiving package protected by enterprise-level security that includes encryption.

Cloud Files uses a standard pay-as-you-go subscription model for its enterprise-level features, such as SAS 70 Type II audit, in-flight and at-rest encryption, and 24×7 customer support by engineers.

Cloud Files can be used on a standalone basis or as a shared storage resource as part of the NTT America Cloud services, enabling users to deploy Cloud Files as a storage medium across all of their Web or IT properties.

Cloud Files is comprised of a full suite of management controls to enable flexibility in managing ongoing storage requirements. System administrators can set usage quotas with role-based permissions, allowing IT administrators to allocate appropriate storage based on department requirements.

Companies can also create unlimited storage accounts, which are clearly defined with account names and descriptions.

Because it is a service that requires no hardware, Cloud Files enables IT departments to move storage from a capital expense to an operational expense, allowing greater flexibility in planning and allocation of capital.

Pricing is based on usage, and starts at 15 cents per gigabyte per month, with volume discounts available. The service is available now.
