eWEEK is fond of producing slide shows — you know, those click-through picture and/or art-based features that liven up a “list” story. Admittedly, sometimes they appear to be shameless attempts by an online publisher to pile up page views. But look at it this way: It’s just the electronic way of turning pages.

In any case, we just posted one on “Possible M&As in the Wake of Oracle-Sun,” the news that shook the IT world on April 20. Why this happens, only a psychcologist can explain, but these things often work in waves. Sort of like the way celebrities often pass away three at a time, within a few days of each other.

After Oracle swallowed Sun Microsystems for a net of $5.6 billion, talk on the street of subsequent mergers & acquisition acitivity started to heat up.

“We believe there is going to be more M and A activity in technology because valuations are depressed, and it is going to be a difficult to for many companies to grow is this economy. What will be interesting is how the transactions evolve,” Enterprise Strategy Group analyst Brian Babineau told us.

We talked to industry vendors, channel folks, and analysts, and we have aggregated their opinions in the slide show. Some of the rumors are old ones and some are new. One we just made up today because we thought it was a good idea. Some are a bit surprising, some maybe not. But they are all newsworthy.

Check it out here and let us know what you think.
