ProStor Systems named a new president/CEO Jan. 21. He’s Frank Harbist, who joins the Boulder, Colo., company after 21 years at Hewlett-Packard.
Harbist’s mission will be to continue to grow ProStor’s RDX removable disk product line. An RDX system is a low-end, tape-replacement data storage package designed to provide small and midsize businesses with easy-to-use and reliable backup, data security and expandable storage.
Each RDX disk cartridge houses a high-capacity mobile 2.5-inch hard disk drive in a shock-resistant design to allow the cartridge to sustain a fall from up to one meter without damage. The cartridge is inserted into a dock, which can be connected internally through USB or Serial ATA, or externally with USB.
Imation and Dell have partnered to provide products in this sector.
Steve Georgis, ProStor’s founder and director, will head up the RDX drive and media business as general manager. He will report to Harbist, which, off the top, seems a bit awkward.
