Enterprise storage management automator Aptare has gone international. The Campbell, Calif.-based company has expanded into Europe to work locally with prospective customers, resellers and partners in order to grow its business.

Aptare provides open standards-based storage reporting, monitoring and alerting software products that are designed to increase the efficiency of enterprise storage environments and reduce costs. Even though it’s only been doing advanced reporting on enterprise backup environments for a short while, it has about 700 loyal enterprise customers.

To support the company’s international growth, CEO Rick Clark has named storage veterans Nigel Houghton and Richard Harris to head up a European team based in the United Kingdom.

Houghton will serve as regional sales manager for Aptare in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). He most recently served as Enterprise Channel Manager at Quantum, where he oversaw strategic relationships with Pan-European resellers and system integrators.

Harris joins Aptare from EMC, where he served as the technical services director for its Data Protection Advisor product in EMEA. He will be the technical sales consultant manager for Aptare in EMEA.

Aptare is growing because it knows how to do storage planning and management. Instead of manually configuring changes in the storage capacity and planning-information-gathering system, Aptare users simply subscribe to an automatic download of updated rules as they become available.

The company’s StorageConsole 8 Feature Pack One features a smart, agentless host data collector for enterprise storage environments. This new collector can apply multiple methods at once to capture storage capacity metrics from the hosts and heterogeneous storage systems, wherever they may be in the enterprise.

The collector “learns” and optimizes the system’s data collection for scheduled collections. Data parsing and interpretation rules are separated from the core logic of the agentless data collector in the same way that virus-protection software vendors use virus signatures and their rules files.

When the rules become changed or updated, they immediately are available for download from the Aptare portal on a 24-hour basis.

Couldn’t make this storage management stuff any easier.
