CNN is reporting that Twitter spent $40 million to acquire TweetDeck. I’ve been using TweetDeck since version 1 and have found it improving with each rev. Twitter is finding one of the big rules in Internet publishing to be in full force. You have to keep growing adding new features throughout the spectrum. You have to make it easy for users to produce and manage content (TweetDeck) while building out a robust publishing platform on all media systems including smartphones, tablets and more and also coming up with a compelling ad server and management system that does not intrude on the user experience. Acquisitions such as these make a lot more sense than the recent Microsoft acquisition of Skype in my opinion.
