Hosted CRM applications provider Salesforce.com will announce Friday the appointment of Steve Cakebread as its chief financial officer, after Cakebreads departure from the same position at Autodesk was announced Thursday.

Cakebread will leave Autodesk later this month and take over as CFO at Salesforce.com effective June 3. He replaces Andy Hyde, who left San Francisco-based Salesforce.com in March.

“As we continue to scale the organization, we are excited to have Steve join our management team and help move Salesforce.com to the next level,” said Marc Benioff, chairman, president and CEO of Salesforce.com, in a statement.

“His extensive senior management experience with leading high-growth technology companies will be a strategic advantage to Salesforce.com as we execute on our mission of delivering software as a service to companies of all sizes around the world.”

Cakebread had been CFO of Autodesk, a Salesforce.com customer, since 1993. He had previously worked in financial management positions at Silicon Graphics Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Co.

“Were going to miss Steve, but hes decided to move on to the startup world to join Salesforce.com as their chief financial officer,” said Carol Bartz, Autodesk chairman and CEO, in a statement. “We wish him the best, and as a Salesforce.com customer, we have a stake in his future success.”

Autodesk, also based in San Francisco, develops design software and digital content. The company reported first quarter earnings Thursday of $17.6 million, down from $27.9 million in the same quarter a year ago. Revenues were also down, from $245.7 million to $229.3 million, and the company warned that revenues would fall further in the second quarter.
