The open-source MySQL database is getting souped up for x86 technology.

MySQL AB announced Tuesday that the database has been optimized for Advanced Micro Devices Inc.s 64-bit Opteron processor, which is designed to be the backbone for a unified 64-bit computing infrastructure thats compatible with x86 technology. The Uppsala, Sweden, company also announced that the MySQL database for the QNX Neutrino RTOS (real-time operating system) running on the x86 processor is now available.

QNX Neutrino RTOS is an architecture used for creating real-time applications embedded in devices such as telecommunications equipment, automotive systems, medical instruments and consumer electronics. Users of QNX Neutrino RTOS 6.2.1 can now integrate MySQL as the data management system in their embedded applications.

MySQL is available on all major Linux distributions, as well as Unix, Mac OS and Windows operating systems. MySQL for Linux running on the AMD Opteron is now available at the Uppsala, Sweden, companys site.
