MySQL AB has teamed up with Pogo Linux Inc. to put its open-source database into a box.

The Uppsala, Sweden, database maker announced the partnership on Monday and will preview the integrated hardware/software database appliance at the OReilly Open Source Convention, on July 9-10 in Portland, Ore.

Dubbed the DataWare 2600 Server, the turnkey appliance will be preconfigured and geared to deliver an open-source option in places where throughput and performance are paramount concerns, such as at financial institutions or for Web hosting.

MySQL and Pogo, of Redmond, Wash., will offer joint support for the DataWare 2600 appliance, which they will launch at LinuxWorld in San Francisco on Aug. 4-7. Pogo will support the hardware and Linux operating system, and MySQL will support its database.
