Oracle Corp. on Wednesday announced that it is extending the reach of its Oracle Identity Management infrastructure beyond Oracle platform borders by partnering with a trio of security companies in the identity management arena.

Oracle has decided to integrate its OIM technology with Netegrity Inc., Entrust Inc. and Thor Technologies to give customers the freedom to implement the full breath of their authentication, single sign-on (SSO) and provisioning security functions across heterogeneous environments and third-party applications, said Bill Maimone, vice president of Server Technology Platform for the Redwood Shores, Calif., company.

In conjunction with last weeks unveiling of the Oracle 10G Application Server featuring bolstered OIM functions, Maimone said the new security partnerships will enable a greater degree of flexibility to utilize the database giants OIM stack, featuring directory integration, delegated administration, SSO and user provisioning capabilities in other applications and systems.

For instance, Netegrity is working with Oracle to empower the Netegrity SiteMinder software to support Oracle Application Server SSO and Oracle HTTP Server. With an eye toward automating and centralizing user account administration, Netegrity is also integrating its identity and access management products with the Oracle Database and LDAP compliant Oracle Internet Directory, according to officials from Waltham, Mass.-based Netegrity.

Thor Technologies Xellerate product and Entrusts Secure Identity Management suite will also take advantage of the OIM marriage to provide tighter provisioning controls and offer digital IDs to multiple Oracle applications, respectively, noted company officials.

On the horizon, Maimone said Oracle plans to add OIM support to Novell eDirectory and open LDAP within the next six to nine months.
