In a nod to the importance that grid computing will play in the next iteration of its flagship database, Oracle Corp. is calling the update Oracle10G.

Oracle10G, which features what the Redwood Shores, Calif., company calls Dynamic Grid Computing, will be unveiled at OracleWorld in September in San Francisco. The first public mention of the new name appeared recently in an Oracle Web site page that advertises OracleWorld Paris.

Oracle officials have released scant details about upcoming features in Oracle10G. Rumors and confirmed features include hyped speed, scalability that will support petabyte databases, enhanced XML database and Web services support, expanded clustering support, and additional grid-computing features.
