Many researchers have pointed to the benefits of virtual colonoscopy. However a new study shows the experimental cancer screening technique is not yet ready for prime time.
Earlier studies showed that virtual colonoscopy offered a fair degree of accuracy in the detection of large polyps when performed by a trained operator. Still, when the test was performed by a large sample of doctors at a variety of health centers, the computerized screening technique proved far less reliable, the study said.
