An Egghead Scrambles
Battered online software retailer Egghead.com says Chief Financial Officer John Labbett is quitting to take a job closer to his home in Los Angeles. Mark Shepherd, managing partner and CFO at management consultant 54th Street Partners, is Labbetts replacement.
GM Sees Beyond
Automaker General Motors will use software from SeeBeyond Technology as part of an effort to link disparate applications. SeeBeyond, based in Redwood City, Calif., makes enterprise application integration software. GM hopes SeeBeyond can help it streamline processes involved in fulfilling orders, purchasing materials and scheduling.
Friends of IBM
IBM fortified its e-business portfolio by signing new partnerships at its supply chain conference in Las Vegas last week with marketplace software vendor Ariba, enterprise software vendor J.D. Edwards & Co. and collaborative applications specialist Logility. In most cases, the deals strengthen existing alliances between IBM and the software vendors.
No Exceptions
Computer Sciences Corp. was thought to be partially immune to the current troubles affecting Internet systems integrators because it has a large customer base of Fortune 500 companies. However, CSC says it too has been hit by the downturn, and warns it will miss estimates for the fourth quarter by a wide margin. The company also announced plans to cut 700 to 900 jobs.
Amazon Change
The executive in charge of Amazon. coms technology retailing business, Christopher Payne, has resigned, citing personal reasons. Payne led the e-retailers technology products group, which included consumer electronics. Carl Gish, Paynes next-in-command, will take over the role.
