Flashline Inc. on Monday announced a deal with Alltel Information Services Inc. in which Alltel will use Flashlines reusable software components in an enterprisewide software reuse initiative.

Cleveland-based Flashline said Alltel, based in Little Rock, Ark., has chosen Flashlines Component Manager, Enterprise Edition (CMEE) as the foundation for its reuse initiative. Alltel bought an enterprise license for Flashlines CMEE and will standardize on it in an effort to create an assembly line approach to software development, Flashline officials said.

Alltel is targeting its reuse program at streamlining software development across multiple groups, including those creating application software for clients in the financial, mortgage and telecommunications industries. Using CMEE, Alltel will document, categorize and publish existing software components and assets, and make them available for use throughout the organization, Alltel officials said. Alltel officials also said the company hopes to improve communication and collaboration with CMEE.

Alltel Information Services has 6,000 people, including 1,500 developers across 10 locations, the company said. With CMEE, the Alltel developers will be able to locate components and evaluate them. They also will be able to track the components using the CMEEs tracking and reporting features as a way to measure the impact of software reuse.
