Jabber Inc. will announce Monday version 1.3 of its Jabber WebClient instant messaging application, adding new capabilities that make the IM client more extendible into other applications.

This version of the application can be embedded in a portal or launched from a customers Web site, with the customers brand used as a real-time customer service tool or for automated customer response. It can also deliver news feeds.

Jabber WebClient 1.3 adds more full-featured capabilities that Jabbers Windows client includes, such as security, subscription control, roster management, user and room search, presence and status information.

Company officials said the new features would make Jabber WebClient more of an enterprise IM tool. The software has been sold mostly to telecommunication companies at this point, though with this release Jabber, of Denver, is also targeting high-tech and knowledge-based companies such as system integrators and consultants.

Jabber WebClient 1.3 is included with the Jabber Communications Platform Server, which is priced at $16 per user, less for higher volumes of users. A scaled-down version of the server is also available for free download for less than 100 users.
