Macromedia Inc., best known for its Web development tools like ColdFusion, Flash and Dreamweaver, is attempting to increase its share of the e-learning space after announcing the acquisition of privately held Presedia Inc. on Thursday.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Macromedia will immediately take over sales and support of Presedias Express licensed and hosted offering for online presentations, training and e-learning. Express is built on Macromedias Flash Player.

Express enables users to combine tools like Microsoft PowerPoint with audio into a streaming Macromedia Flash application. The content can contain slides, audio, animations, quizzes and surveys. The system tracks and reports results, and can also be integrated with existing learning management systems, according to Macromedia officials in San Francisco.

Express will join Macromedia Contribute in Macromedias Information Convenience product family.

Presedia founders Kevin Lynch and Keith Kitani will join Macromedia to lead the direction and development of the Express product line.
