Supply chain execution software developer Manhattan Associates Inc. announced earlier this week that it acquired certain assets of Logistics.com from Internet Capital Group for approximately $20 million.

Logistics.com, of Burlington, Mass., makes logistics planning and execution software that enable users to buy, sell, manage and optimize transportation services.

The acquisition is expected to bridge the internal gap between transportation planning and execution by expanding Manhattan Associates existing transportation management offerings.

Logistic.coms software covers shipper and carrier management and contractual and spot procurement across various modes of transportation, both domestic and international. The software capabilities provide companies with shipment visibility, including reporting, tracking and alerts.

Manhattan Associates will utilize Logistic.coms architecture, called Logistics Event Management Architecture, which enables carriers and partners to collaborate. The workflow-based architecture integrates with other business processes via a standards-based interface, Transportation XML, or tXML, officials said.

Manhattan Associates, of Atlanta, also acquired additional Logistic.com technology, including OptiManage, transportation management software for shippers; OptiBid, strategic procurement software for shippers; and OptiYield, decision support and optimization software for carriers.

Logistic.coms software is geared toward a number of vertical markets, including consumer goods, food and grocery, high tech and industrial.
