MicroStrategy Inc. is deepening its commitment to Unix by adding more support for IBMs AIX platform, the company announced Friday.
The company later this year is expected to deliver Web-based reporting and analytics capability on AIX—significant because of the improved performance AIX can provide over Windows-based systems.
By early next year, MicroStrategy will offer an IBM AIX operating system-certified version of its Intelligence Server product. The Vienna, Va.-based company already offers a Java-based version of its Software Development Kit, certified to run with IBMs WebSphere application server. Through that SDK, MicroStrategy software can also run on Linux on IBMs OS/390 platform.
Sanju Bansal, MicroStrategys vice president and COO, in a statement, described the enhanced AIX support as a “significant technology milestone” for the company and pledged that the AIX version of MicroStrategys software would have “complete feature parity” with Windows versions.
IBM will invest both technology and expertise in the development effort.
“The strength of both the MicroStrategy and AIX platforms will provide organizations with unsurpassed application performance,” said Mike Kerr, vice president, Customer Set Marketing of IBMs eServer Group, in a statement.
MicroStrategy earlier this week reported second quarter earnings of $36.8 million, down from $47.6 million in the same period a year ago. The company did however report net income of $25 million on those revenues, after losing $6.3 million in the year-ago period.
Much of the net profit comes from a gain on the termination of a contract with Exchange Applications Inc. and a reduction in estimated costs of a legal settlement.
Still, MicroStrategy had to declare a 1-for-10 reverse stock split this week to boost its faltering stock price.
